Our story starts in a garage in Armenia, where a young Edgar Yerkanyan was experimenting with buckets, pipes, and nutrient formulas to grow vegetables out of season.
Obsessed with results, he taught himself the chemistry of plant nutrition, the physics of light, and the engineering behind hydroponic systems. His early setups were crude — homemade reservoirs, salvaged lights — but the results were undeniable.
When Edgar moved to California, he brought his knowledge — and his ambition. He launched ModernFarms as an online store, helping growers across the country access top-tier supplies with low prices and fast shipping.
But something was missing: a place for people to connect, ask questions, and get hands-on help.
That’s why he opened Sun Valley Hydro — a physical store where the hydro community could come together.
Located in the heart of Sun Valley, our shop is more than just shelves and gear. It’s where new growers get their start, where pros find what they need fast, and where Edgar still walks the floor to offer advice, troubleshoot issues, and share what’s new.
